Characters of Colfax seeks a writer to share stories about the people, places, and things that make Colfax, Colfax.

The Colfax Ave Business Improvement District (BID) is on the hunt for a writer for our sister site, Characters of Colfax. We started the blog in 2017 to highlight the people, places, and things that make Colfax, well, Colfax. If you love to write and also love all of the character that Colfax has to offer, keep reading.

Creative Content Writer

We’re looking for a writer to create compelling, creative features and social media content that showcase everyone and everything that makes Colfax Avenue such a special street.

If you know Colfax, you know there are plenty of incredible stories out there just waiting to be told. And we’re not talking about the obvious stories. We’re talking about the community members who quietly embody the resilience of the street, but are often overlooked. The building you walk by all the time that has an unexpected history. The people and places that don’t exist anymore but need to be remembered.

The ideal writer will have a strong relationship with and understanding of Colfax (especially along our stretch, which is essentially from the State Capitol to East High School). You’ll need a high level of creativity and the ability to work independently. You’ll also need excellent interpersonal skills, be able to meet deadlines, and commit to producing content throughout the entire 2022 calendar year.

Responsibilities include:

  • One piece every other month, or six per year (approx. 500 words). This includes brainstorming topics for each piece with BID staff, coordinating interviews, taking photos to accompany the piece, etc.
  • Creating content for 1-2 social media posts per month (shortened feature, similar style to Humans of New York).

Compensation

  • $200 per piece (this is also inclusive of the additional social media content described above).
